These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of CookwithFriends (the "App"), a social recipe and cooking-log app operated by SHARP SHUTTER PHOTOGRAPHY ("we," "us," or "our"). By downloading, accessing, or using the App — or by tapping "Agree & Start Cooking" on first run — you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
By creating an account, downloading, tapping "Agree & Start Cooking," or otherwise using the App, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated here by reference. These Terms form a binding agreement between you and us. If a material change is made to these Terms, we may ask you to accept them again inside the App. You must be at least 16 years old to create an account or use the App. By using the App, you represent that you are 16 or older; the App is not intended for, and may not be used by, anyone under 16.
CookwithFriends is a social recipe and cooking tool. You can save and organize recipes, import recipes from the web or by scanning a photo, log the meals you cook with photos and ratings, share to an activity feed, comment and react, collaborate on grocery lists, keep a pantry and get suggestions for what to cook from it, plan trips, potlucks, and weekly meals (and share a week's plan with friends), create groups and message friends by direct or group chat, see ingredient-substitution suggestions, find cover photos for recipes, see estimated calorie information, set optional dietary preferences, keep an encrypted Family Secrets vault, and ask the in-app assistant ("Sous Sprout"), whose AI-powered features are part of the Premium+ tier. The App works on your device; signing in to sync and the social features are optional.
We may add, change, suspend, or remove features at any time without notice, and we do not guarantee that the App or any feature will always be available, uninterrupted, or error-free.
You are responsible for what you cook and eat. Recipes, ingredient quantities, cooking times, and temperatures in the App are estimates and are often user-generated or imported from third parties. They are provided for general informational purposes only and are not professional culinary, nutritional, medical, dietary, or food-safety advice.
You are solely responsible for safe food handling, storage, and cooking — including cooking foods to safe internal temperatures — and for checking every ingredient against any allergies, intolerances, sensitivities, medical conditions, or dietary or religious requirements, both yours and those of anyone you cook for. Any nutritional, serving, or calorie figures shown are rough estimates only — they are derived automatically by parsing your ingredient list and looking ingredients up in third-party food databases, are not lab-verified, and should not be relied on for medical, dietary, or weight-management decisions. When in doubt, follow trusted food-safety guidance and consult a qualified professional (such as a physician or registered dietitian). To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any allergic reaction, illness, injury, or other harm arising from preparing, serving, or consuming food based on content in the App.
AI-generated content and dietary preferences. Some features — including the Sous Sprout assistant, AI recipe import, AI nutrition estimates, pantry cooking ideas, and ingredient-substitution suggestions — produce content automatically, using AI models or built-in rules. Such content can be incomplete, out of date, or simply wrong, including about ingredients, allergens, substitutes, and nutrition, and you must verify it before relying on it. The optional dietary preferences in Settings (diet style, calorie/protein targets, ingredients to avoid) are convenience filters only: they tailor suggestions but do not guarantee that any suggestion, meal plan, substitution, or recipe complies with your diet, allergy, or medical needs — for example, an "avoid" list works by matching ingredient names and can miss an ingredient that is spelled differently or hidden in a sub-ingredient. The App is not a medical device and provides no medical, dietary, or nutritional advice. Always check every ingredient yourself.
You keep ownership of the recipes, photos, notes, comments, and other content you create ("Your Content"). By posting or sharing Your Content in the App, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to store, display, and transmit it only as needed to operate the App for you and the people you share it with (for example, to sync it to your devices or show it to a group you post to). You represent that you have the right to share Your Content and that it does not infringe anyone's rights.
CookwithFriends is a welcoming, be-kind community. This applies to everything you post or send — recipes, cook logs, comments, group posts, and direct and group chat messages. You agree not to post or send content that is hateful, harassing, illegal, infringing, or abusive. The App filters obviously objectionable text and provides tools to report content or a message and block other users (blocking hides that user's posts and messages from you). We may filter, remove, or restrict content, and limit or suspend accounts, that violate these Terms — but we are not obligated to monitor content and are not responsible for content created by users. Messages are transmitted to the recipients you choose; once sent, we cannot control how a recipient stores or re-shares them.
The App is not a backup service, and we are not responsible for lost recipes or data. You are solely responsible for maintaining your own backups of your recipes, photos, cook logs, grocery lists, Family Secrets, and any other content. The App provides an Export feature for this purpose — please use it regularly.
Your content is stored on your device and, only if you enable it, synced to your account. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss, deletion, corruption, alteration, or inability to access any of your content or data, however it arises — including from device loss, damage, or replacement; the operating system evicting or clearing app storage; uninstalling the App; sync delays, merges, or conflicts (where the most recent change to a field wins); a Guest/anonymous account becoming inaccessible; a forgotten Family Secrets passphrase (which is unrecoverable by design); your own deletion of content or your account; or any interruption, discontinuation, or failure of the App or its third-party services.
You acknowledge and accept these risks as a condition of using the App, and you agree that keeping your own backups is your responsibility. This Section applies together with the disclaimers and limitation of liability in Sections 12 and 13 below.
An account is optional — the App works on your device without one. If you create an account, you agree to provide accurate information, to keep your login credentials secure, and to be responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. When signed in, the data you choose to sync is stored in your account and protected by per-user security rules. Guest (anonymous) accounts are convenient but can be lost if your device's storage is cleared; to preserve anything you care about, link your Guest account to Email/Password or another sign-in method. You may delete your account and its synced cloud data at any time from within the App. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
The Family Secrets vault encrypts recipe content on your device with a passphrase you choose. The passphrase is never sent to us or stored anywhere by us, so we cannot read, recover, or reset your Family Secrets. If you lose or forget the passphrase, that content is permanently unrecoverable. You are responsible for remembering your passphrase and keeping your own copy of anything important.
The App offers optional paid tiers: Premium (available as an auto-renewable subscription and/or a one-time purchase — a single, non-recurring charge) and Premium+ (an auto-renewable monthly or annual subscription that additionally includes the Sous Sprout AI features). Because AI features depend on server-side services, Premium+ features require an internet connection and may be rate-limited to keep the service healthy. Prices are shown in the App in your local currency and are set on the App Store.

The App relies on third-party services (including Google Firebase, Apple, RevenueCat; for Premium+ AI features, our AI service and Anthropic's Claude API; as a legacy option if you supply a key, Google's Gemini API; when you use "Find a photo," the Pexels, TheMealDB, and Openverse stock-photo services; and when calorie estimates are shown, the USDA FoodData Central, Open Food Facts, and wger nutrition databases) and lets you import recipes from third-party websites. We are not responsible for the accuracy, completeness, timeliness, or availability of third-party data or services, and your use of them may be subject to those providers' terms. Recipes and other content you import from a website remain the property of their original authors; you are responsible for respecting their rights and terms.
Photos from stock-photo services. Cover images you add through "Find a photo" are supplied by third parties and remain subject to the license of the service and photographer that provided them (for example, Pexels' license or a Creative Commons license via Openverse). We surface the available attribution; you are responsible for using any such image in a way that complies with its license, particularly if you re-share or export it outside the App.
The App, including its design, text, graphics, and software (excluding Your Content and third-party content), is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App for your personal, non-commercial use, subject to these Terms. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.
The App is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or free of errors, that any recipe or other content is accurate, safe, or reliable, or that your data will be preserved, available, or free from loss.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event will we be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, recipes, content, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of (or inability to use) the App — including, without limitation, any loss or corruption of your recipes or other content, and any illness, injury, or harm relating to food prepared using the App. Our total liability for any claim relating to the App will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or USD $50. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions or limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you; in that case, our liability is limited to the greatest extent permitted by law.
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your use of the App, Your Content, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of a third party.
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice within the App or ask you to accept the updated Terms again. Your continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
We may suspend or terminate your access to the App at any time, with or without cause or notice. Upon termination, the rights granted to you under these Terms will end, while sections that by their nature should survive (such as the food-safety disclaimer, the data-loss provisions, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and indemnification) will continue to apply.
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of British Columbia, Canada, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. You agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located there for any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the App.
